Fine Arts

Students’ lives can be enriched by the enjoyment and meaning that the unique qualities of our Fine Arts Department can present them.   Critical thinking skills and problem-solving techniques, developed from learning music, theater and art, can transfer to a variety of life experiences.  Self-discipline, creativity, and inventiveness fostered through music benefits not only students, but society.  At St. Patrick Cathedral, students participate in organized musical activities; they learn cooperation and awareness of their role in their community and their society.  This awareness allows students to appreciate not only their culture, but also the culture of others in their world.  In addition to general music education, the Fine Arts Department offers opportunities to participate in performances where students can show their artistic talent, play a variety of instruments and sing as an ensemble.

Our Fine Arts is an important part of life at St. Patrick and most of all....it's fun!

General Music Classes (3K-8th)

Music for middle school meets (3 times a week) elementary (twice a week). This course is designed to be a music appreciation course that teaches students about the “ingredients” of music such as melody, harmony, notation, texture, style, rhythm and form.  Students will explore the basics of music as well as sing, perform on classroom instruments, and listen to numerous examples of music from around the world, including musical theatre. There are several beautiful memories to be made! St. Patrick Cathedral School had the opportunity in uniting all Catholic schools together and forming the first ever All-star Band which debuted at the First Light Thanksgiving Parade as well as performing for the El Paso’s Lighting of the Christmas Tree.

Theater / Recitals

Each year, St. Patrick Cathedral School prepares two major performances:

1) The Christmas Program in which all students 3k-8th participate. Each year, a theme is given for each class such as Christmas Around       the World, A Hollywood Christmas, 12 Days of Christmas, and Christmas at the Beach.

2) The Spring Stage Production which is put together by middle school such as Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Les Misérables, Tale of the Magic         Lamp and Wonderland.

After School Music Programs

Our classes meet once a week all throughout the year. Our classes also put on a Christmas Recital and End of the Year Concert to showcase what our students have learned throughout the year. Our classes consist of the following:

• Guitar

• Piano

• Violin

• Mariachi

• Trumpet

• Cello

• Clarinet

“Mariachi Campanitas de San Patricio”

The only Mariachi group throughout the entire El Paso Catholic Diocese.  Our group was founded in 2007 with 4 members. Since that time, we have been fortunate enough to grow our performance group to 10-15 members strong ranging from 1st to 8th

Grade.  We have performed for numerous occasions such as Quinceañeras, Graduations, Region XIX Seminars, performing at Governor Rick Perry, “Cinco de Mayo Dinners” bazaars, local businesses, Providence Hospital, local television stations (KTSM), Sun Bowl Thanksgiving Parade, various celebrations at UTEP and EPCC, Chihuahua games, local conferences, 1150 The Bridge and for our very own Bishop Mark J. Seitz.
